SrSusan (Guest): What can cause us to be led to turn prayer into an anxious pursuit of something?

Oct 27, 4:30 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Hi Carol!

Oct 27, 4:30 PM

Donna (Guest): Hi Carol!

Oct 27, 4:30 PM

Donna (Guest): When we feel pressured

Oct 27, 4:30 PM

Carol (Guest): Hi everyone! I am so sorry for your loss Sr. Susan

Oct 27, 4:30 PM

Simone (Guest): Hi everyone

Oct 27, 4:30 PM

Donna (Guest): Hi Simone!

Oct 27, 4:30 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Thank you

Oct 27, 4:30 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Hi Simone

ct 27, 4:33 PM

Simone (Guest): if we take our eagerness of “praying well” more important, than meeting GOD or just to be seen by him

Oct 27, 4:33 PM

Lori (Guest): Ultimately, maybe an incomplete trust that God will take care of our needs and surrender to His will.

ct 27, 4:33 PM

Simone (Guest): I like that term “in complete trust”

Oct 27, 4:33 PM

Carol (Guest): Because it’s about the relationship, not what we want, or even need

ct 27, 4:34 PMSimone (Guest): yes, and about trust, that we do not “create” the whole prayer, but that we actually mostly respond to the grace

Oct 27, 4:34 PM

Carol (Guest): I find doing this changes me

Oct 27, 4:35 PM

Simone (Guest): Carol.. can you explain a little bit please?

Oct 27, 4:35 PM

Lori (Guest): Yes, all prayer is a response to His invitation to speak to Him. All prayer is initiated by God by placing the desire in our hearts.

Oct 27, 4:35 PM

SrSusan (Guest): when we ask for something that seems so necessary to us it might end up as anxious pursuit

ct 27, 4:35 PM

Simone (Guest): yes, I experienced this mostly when I prayed for my daughter’

Oct 27, 4:36 PM

Dawn (Guest): clear and simple

Oct 27, 4:36 PM

Carol (Guest): Well if I am nervous or tense or crabby, I can say the Jesus prayer, and after a bit I find I’ve forgotten about being nervous or tense

Oct 27, 4:36 PM

Donna (Guest): True it can be all we think about

Oct 27, 4:36 PMSimone (Guest): thanks for explaining Carol

Oct 27, 4:38 PM

SrSusan (Guest): q Why do we tend to treat prayer like a wishing well and God like a genie? What is the true purpose of prayer?

Oct 27, 4:38 PM

Simone (Guest): I found in the last months much freedom and new joy in prayer as I reminded myself always in the beginning of my prayer time, that HE does the main work

Oct 27, 4:39 PM

Carol (Guest): It might come from our early training in prayers of petition-we are taught to ask for what we want or need, but not to go deeper

Oct 27, 4:39 PM

Ruth (Guest): Kroger give glory to God— the purpose of prayer and of action.

Oct 27, 4:39 PM

Simone (Guest): we pray like with a wishing well.. because we are often too attached to our own will

ct 27, 4:40 PM

Carol (Guest): Hi Betty! I drove by near where you live yesterday and said a prayer for you

Oct 27, 4:40 PM

Ruth (Guest): Seri! To give Glory to God.

Oct 27, 4:40 PM

Bettychao (Guest): Give him praise

Oct 27, 4:40 PM

Simone (Guest): awe.. that is sweet of you Carol.. to pray for Betty

Oct 27, 4:41 PM

Lori (Guest): I think we can treat God like a wishing well or genie when we forget about the relationship aspect, we forget about listening to Him, sitting in silence and letting Him speak to us in whatever manner He chooses. It’s all to delve into a deeper relationship with Him.

Oct 27, 4:41 PM

Carol (Guest): I was right there nearby

Oct 27, 4:41 PM

Simone (Guest): I totally agree Lori

Oct 27, 4:41 PM

Bettychao (Guest): We need to say thanks

Oct 27, 4:41 PM

Simone (Guest): I really highly dislike the Santa Claus theology

Oct 27, 4:41 PM

Carol (Guest): Because He already knows what we need and has plans at the ready to give it to us

Oct 27, 4:42 PM

Simone (Guest): That said.. sometimes it is a special way of leaning deeper into trusting Him, by asking for little things.. just to refresh the Father- daughter relationship.

Oct 27, 4:42 PM

SrSusan (Guest): never heard that phrase before Santa Claus theology! But I guess I know what it means

Oct 27, 4:42 PM

Carol (Guest): So we can sit with Him and not worry

Oct 27, 4:43 PM

Simone (Guest): I made it up Sr. Susan.. but I think it is self explanatory

Oct 27, 4:43 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Smile dont know how to make a smiley face

Oct 27, 4:43 PM

Bettychao (Guest): Jesus say not live only eat bread but also listen obey God

Oct 27, 4:43 PM

Simone (Guest): I think the difference is.. if we “grasp” in prayer – or if we sit at His feet and “receive” in prayer

Oct 27, 4:43 PM

Lori (Guest): Well put, Simone

Oct 27, 4:44 PM

SrSusan (Guest): yes

Oct 27, 4:44 PM

Simone (Guest): if you want to do a smily Sr. Susan.. you make a “:” and then a ) so together : ) ( but without a space in between)

Oct 27, 4:44 PM

Lori (Guest): I love to sit in front of the Blessed Sacrament, especially after a hard day at work, and just receive His love. No words… just receive love and love in return.

Oct 27, 4:44 PM

Carol (Guest): Yes, be like Mary and sit at His feet

Oct 27, 4:44 PM

Ruth (Guest): Sometimes sin, even very small sins even righteous anger or trying to figure out HOW best to

express it can get in the way of prayer.

Oct 27, 4:45 PM

Simone (Guest): that’s one of the best ways to pray Lori.. St. Jane de Chantal loved to pray like that too

Oct 27, 4:45 PM

Bettychao (Guest): That is why we join mass because we join closed near the supper of the lord

Oct 27, 4:45 PM

Carol (Guest): Because we are focused on self

ct 27, 4:45 PMSimone (Guest): yes Ruth.. and yes Carol.. I do not even realize HOW much I am focused on myself in prayer..

Oct 27, 4:47 PMRuth (Guest): I think it is fine, though, to try to express TO HIM what is bothering us.

Oct 27, 4:47 PM

Lori (Guest): Ruth, absolutely.

Oct 27, 4:47 PM

Simone (Guest): absolutely fine.. He sees our hearts anyways..

Oct 27, 4:48 PM

Carol (Guest): Yes, if we tell Him, surrendering it, He acts

Oct 27, 4:48 PM

Simone (Guest): but expressing how we feel about something is different, than trying to manipulate Him.. Kind of funny that we even try this.. but we do.. or suggesting solutions in prayer, rather than just brining Him our pain

Oct 27, 4:48 PMRuth (Guest): Exactly!

ct 27, 4:49 PMSrSusan (Guest): q How can we “let God do his will”? Are we able to stop God from doing his will?

Oct 27, 4:50 PM

Ruth (Guest): Oh, are you living in community now, Carol?

Oct 27, 4:50 PM

Simone (Guest): hope you come back Carol

Oct 27, 4:51 PM

Bettychao (Guest): Did Ruth live in convent

Oct 27, 4:51 PM

Lori (Guest): I think it’s more “let” as in “don’t fight against, but cooperate” rather than “allow.” No one can prevent God’s will.

Oct 27, 4:52 PM

Simone (Guest): again.. I agree Lori.. I also think that we cannot prevent God’s will – but we can build in some detours maybe.. I know I did in my life

Oct 27, 4:52 PM

Donna (Guest): Wow that is really good Simone

Oct 27, 4:52 PM

Simone (Guest): Looking back on my life with God… I am in awe how gentle GOD works His will in my life. so so beautifully gentle

Oct 27, 4:52 PM

Ruth (Guest): No Betty. I didn’t. But I visited for a long weekend 7 years ago.

Oct 27, 4:53 PM

Bettychao (Guest): I visit Fatima I got two rosaries

Oct 27, 4:53 PM

Lori (Guest): Maybe those detours were all for a reason. God works with our detours to still carry out His will, I think.

Oct 27, 4:53 PM

Donna (Guest): I learned a YouTube lesson on discerning God’s will

Oct 27, 4:53 PM

Donna (Guest): Especially penance

Oct 27, 4:53 PM

Simone (Guest): that’s exactly how I see it too Lori.. and the pain from my detours He used to heal others

Oct 27, 4:54 PM

Lori (Guest): I love that.

Oct 27, 4:54 PM

Donna (Guest): When for instance you were supposed to be a nun but you got married instead

Oct 27, 4:54 PM

Simone (Guest): was it a You Tube from a Jesuit priest Donna?

Oct 27, 4:54 PM

Donna (Guest): It was from Sensus Fedilum

Oct 27, 4:54 PM

Ruth (Guest): Simone🤭. 👍

Oct 27, 4:54 PM

Donna (Guest): Fr. Wolf

Oct 27, 4:55 PMDonna (Guest): He said you can still become a Saint if you did not know that was your call

Oct 27, 4:55 PMDonna (Guest): But you are taking a harder road to get there

ct 27, 4:57 PM

Donna (Guest): Betty you are so blessed!

Oct 27, 4:57 PM

SrSusan (Guest): I think God’s will eventually prevails but maybe under different circumstances than they could have

Oct 27, 4:57 PM

Donna (Guest): To go to all of these holy places

Oct 27, 4:58 PM

Simone (Guest): God’s will is ultimately our eternal healing – our wholeness – our divine wholeness

Oct 27, 4:58 PM

Donna (Guest): Yes Sister, especially when you do not know your holy Catholic faith

Oct 27, 4:59 PMDonna (Guest): You go with your natural inclinations

Oct 27, 4:59 PM

Donna (Guest): When you don’t know the fullness

Oct 27, 4:59 PM

Donna (Guest): Of the faith

ct 27, 5:00 PM

SrSusan (Guest): When it comes to our prayer time, how much do we value simply bringing ourselves into the presence of God, and on the other hand, speaking to him and expecting him to respond?

Oct 27, 5:00 PM

Bettychao (Guest): No matter you are Christian or Catholics Church faith just keep study the faith of Jesus and do in action life

Oct 27, 5:01 PMCarol (Guest): I am becoming more aware of the need to listen and not speak

Oct 27, 5:02 PM

SrSusan (Guest): or just “be”

Oct 27, 5:02 PM

Simone (Guest): I am so utterly glad that after a while of extreme dryness in my prayer… I can hear the voice of my lover again… oh how I had missed this voice

Oct 27, 5:02 PMRuth (Guest): the wise old owl , the less he spoke the more he heard. why can’t we be like that old bird?

ct 27, 5:03 PM

Simone (Guest): my life is so boring, I do not even have anything to say to God

Oct 27, 5:03 PM

Donna (Guest): Yes Betty and yes just bringing myself into God’s presence without distractions is sorely missed when I am late for my time with God a real loss, He must come first time is wasted when I don’t sit with Him first thing if the morning

Oct 27, 5:03 PM

Ruth (Guest): I think my very talkative grandmother taught me that rhyme.

Oct 27, 5:03 PM

SrSusan (Guest): never heard it but its cute and it is wise

Oct 27, 5:03 PM

Bettychao (Guest): Ask Jesus and Mary they will help you

Oct 27, 5:04 PMSimone (Guest): funny, that your talkative grandmother taught you this Ruth.. but she might have reminded herself quite a bit with it

Oct 27, 5:04 PMDonna (Guest): Hahaha!!!

Oct 27, 5:04 PM

Carol (Guest): Yes, when I can’t seem to reach up to Jesus I go,to Mary

Oct 27, 5:04 PM

Simone (Guest): same here Carol.. very interesting

Oct 27, 5:04 PM

Donna (Guest): To Jesus through Mary

Oct 27, 5:05 PM

Oct 27, 5:05 PM

Ruth (Guest): Simone, I cannot believe that your life is boring! God is interested in every detail. So am I.

Oct 27, 5:06 PM

Simone (Guest): if anyone of you by the way is interested to (re) consecrate yourself to Mary.. I found a beautiful consecration book.. ( with the material from Monford) .. but with beautiful art and homilies… let me know if you are interested

Oct 27, 5:06 PM

Carol (Guest): Is it the 44 days?

Oct 27, 5:06 PM

Bettychao (Guest): Long time ago I listen a YouTube channel river of life church talk about holy spirit

Oct 27, 5:07 PM

Donna (Guest): Thank you but I have the old book and renew it every year

Oct 27, 5:07 PM

Simone (Guest): Ruth.. my life is very slow – and quiet.. so nothing really happens in my life.. but I am blessed with a rich internal life..

Oct 27, 5:07 PM

Simone (Guest): I think it is 33 days Carol

Oct 27, 5:07 PM

Bettychao (Guest): Holy spirit is important in our holy life

Oct 27, 5:08 PM

Lori (Guest): Thanks, Simone!

Oct 27, 5:08 PM

Simone (Guest): I am starting on the 5th of November.. if someone wants to do it together.. please let me know. I am very open to this

Oct 27, 5:09 PM

Bettychao (Guest): When john baptized Jesus Jesus had a holy spirit coming on him

Oct 27, 5:09 PM

Simone (Guest): my email is s.k.robinson@icloud.com

Oct 27, 5:09 PM

Simone (Guest): sorry.. I hijacked the conversation with this a bit

Oct 27, 5:09 PM

Bettychao (Guest): When we baptized not only in the pool but by Holy spirit and holy fire

Oct 27, 5:10 PM

Lori (Guest): You can’t go wrong with Fr. Boniface Hicks

Oct 27, 5:10 PM

Carol (Guest): It was a good sidetrack!

Oct 27, 5:10 PM

Simone (Guest): exactly.. he is giving a retreat in my area here too actually

Oct 27, 5:10 PM

Simone (Guest): if you want a good book on prayer.. I totally recommend his book

Oct 27, 5:10 PM

Ruth (Guest): Thanks. Yes, we used Fr. Gaitley’s book at Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer.

Oct 27, 5:11 PM

Simone (Guest): I did my first consecration also with Fr. Gaitley

Oct 27, 5:11 PM

Simone (Guest): well with his book

Oct 27, 5:11 PM

Ruth (Guest): I’m curious about the artwork. called up link. thanks.

Oct 27, 5:13 PM

SrSusan (Guest): q How can we not be too demanding of God during our time of

prayer? How can we better recognize God’s will?

Oct 27, 5:13 PM

Bettychao (Guest): They teach same thing

Oct 27, 5:15 PM

Donna (Guest): By blindly trusting and living out our state in life

Oct 27, 5:15 PM

Donna (Guest): After being with Him

Oct 27, 5:15 PM

Donna (Guest): In mental prayer

Oct 27, 5:15 PM

Simone (Guest): interesting angle to this question Donna.. I simply thought of getting into prayer without having an agenda of the outcome

Oct 27, 5:16 PM

Simone (Guest): oh.. I see Donna.. you might have answered the second part of the question.

Oct 27, 5:16 PMRuth (Guest): blindly? After Bartholmew was cured of his blndness he followed Jesus.

Oct 27, 5:17 PM

Lori (Guest): Sometimes we can’t see the road before us so we have to trust blindly

Oct 27, 5:17 PM

Bettychao (Guest): Because barthomew know Jesus can help him and accept him

Oct 27, 5:17 PM

Ruth (Guest): The woman at the well “evangelized” when Jesus showed that he knew everything she ever did.

Oct 27, 5:17 PM

Simone (Guest): recognizing God’s will… hmm… At that point in my life.. I watch how my life develops.. where the stirrings of my heart are.. what catches my attention – what themes keep coming up – and then I realize God’s will in that what actually develops in my life.. and then I step into that

Oct 27, 5:18 PM

Carol (Guest): Yes, because only Jesus sees the big picture. We get caught up in what we can see

Oct 27, 5:18 PM

Simone (Guest): so true

Oct 27, 5:18 PM

Lori (Guest): My spiritual director introduced me to Thomas Merton’s A Pilgrim’s Prayer… a beautiful prayer of surrender to the will of God when we feel like we can’t see where we’re going

Oct 27, 5:18 PM

Bettychao (Guest): If you heart you spirit is illed is more horrible them you body sick

Oct 27, 5:19 PM

Ruth (Guest): Good process, Simone.

Oct 27, 5:20 PM

Bettychao (Guest): Where is Sr Susan

Oct 27, 5:20 PM

SrSusan (Guest): here

Oct 27, 5:20 PM

Lori (Guest): My former protestant church always preached against listening to our feelings, but I think if we’re experiencing the fruits of the Spirit (joy, peace, etc.), spending time in prayer seeking God’s will, then we can be pretty sure we’re on the right track.

ct 27, 5:21 PM

Carol (Guest): Listening to our feelings is a spiritual barometer. We should listen to them, but not necessarily heed them

Oct 27, 5:21 PM

Simone (Guest): I agree Lori. There is a way of inner knowing .. of being aligned to the will of God.. and the longer we live in prayer and close to God’s heart the more we can trust that I find..

Oct 27, 5:21 PM

Simone (Guest): feelings are good sojourners but bad leaders

ct 27, 5:22 PM

Bettychao (Guest): We need to pray by ask Jesus sent a good church leader to guide us to Jesus

Oct 27, 5:22 PM

Ruth (Guest): true, Simone!

Oct 27, 5:22 PM

Dawn (Guest): It felt so peaceful in here. I fell asleep

Oct 27, 5:22 PM

SrSusan (Guest): yes Betty

Oct 27, 5:23 PM

SrSusan (Guest): That is a good sign- PEACE!

Oct 27, 5:23 PM

Dawn (Guest): Yes, it is nice

Oct 27, 5:23 PM

Simone (Guest): oh Dawn.. how sweet… I feel it like a compliment Dawn.. good things often happened in the bible – during deep sleep— like the creation of Eve.. just saying

Oct 27, 5:23 PM

Carol (Guest): yep!

Oct 27, 5:24 PM

Ruth (Guest): Are you sleep deprived? for a long time I was falling asleep during the day all the time.

Oct 27, 5:24 PM

Simone (Guest): it’s hard to fall asleep here right now.. my husband is playing the opera Carmen on high volume

Oct 27, 5:24 PM

Bettychao (Guest): Like we have good leader like chad MC Donald the leader of Lenexa Christian church my church in kansas and I got father Dominic soo who serve in my st Elizabeth catholic church California

Oct 27, 5:26 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Dear friends I will leave now as I need to prepare for trip tomorrow. I appreciate your prayers! God bless you!

Oct 27, 5:26 PMSimone (Guest): as for the will of God…. I really like the teachings of St. Francis de Sales on the will of God.. and from all his teaching – the teaching on the will of God probably had the biggest practical impact on meOct 27, 5:26 PMSimone (Guest): Yes, Sr. Susan – we will pray for you. Have a safe trip. May God guide your heart as you say Good bye to your mother.
