January 1587: After praying the “Remember” in front of the statue of Our Lady of Good Deliverance, Saint Francis de Sales is delivered from a deep mystical night. He was then a young student in Paris, where the question of predestination was being debated among theologians.

January 14, 1914: Return to God of Mother Marie-Madeleine Ponnet, foundress of the 2ndTh monastery of the Visitation of Lyon-Vassieux.

January 23, 1572: Birth of Saint Jeanne de Chantal (foundress of the Order of the Visitation of Saint Mary) in Dijon.

January 24, 1623: The body of Saint Francis de Sales is transferred from Lyon, where he died, to Annecy.

24 January: Solemnity of Saint Francis de Sales (Bishop and Doctor of the Church, founder of the Order of the Visitation),celestial patriot of the Guard of Honour. On this day, the Apostolic Penitentiary grants a plenary indulgence to the members of the Guard of Honor under the usual conditions: confession 8 days before/after the feast, sacramental communion, prayer for the Pope’s intentions, detachment from all sins, even venial sins, renewal of the promise to faithfully observe the Statutes of the Guard of Honor.
