Jan 5, 4:31 PM
Simone (Guest): I loved that we sang Christmas songs at mass today. Such a beautiful closing of the season
Jan 5, 4:31 PM
SrSusan (Guest): It closes next week at the Baptism of the Lord
an 5, 4:32 PM
Simone (Guest): I know.. for me.. to be honest.. I have an internal closing of the Season at Epiphany. I grew up like this and it is hard to shake off
Jan 5, 4:32 PM
SrSusan (Guest): For most of us in the old days my age it closed on Feb 2!
an 5, 4:32 PM
Simone (Guest): I had that in my mind today
Jan 5, 4:33 PM
Anna-Marie Kean (Guest): Candlemass Day?
Jan 5, 4:33 PM
SrSusan (Guest): yes
Jan 5, 4:33 PM
Simone (Guest): So.. did you sing Christmas songs until the 2nd of February?
Jan 5, 4:33 PM
SrSusan (Guest): before Vatican 11
Jan 5, 4:33 PM
SrSusan (Guest): Yes and the tree stayed up in some places-
Jan 5, 4:34 PM
Simone (Guest): interesting
an 5, 4:34 PM
SrSusan (Guest): still does at the Vatican I heard
Jan 5, 4:34 PM
SrSusan (Guest): cant confirm that
Jan 5, 4:34 PM
Simone (Guest): I mean.. Christmas has so much to ponder.. we are not running out of meditations.
Jan 5, 4:34 PMSrSusan (Guest): so rich, yes
Jan 5, 4:35 PM
Simone (Guest): It is one of the big ones – with a white cover – padded
Jan 5, 4:35 PM
Simone (Guest): I LOVE IT.. I always wanted one like this..
Jan 5, 4:36 PM
Simone (Guest): and here the Lord just handed it to me.. so sweet
n 5, 4:40 PM
SrSusan (Guest): q What do you think leads to anti-Catholic sentiment in society
Jan 5, 4:40 PM
Simone (Guest): Yes.. I watched the movie
Jan 5, 4:40 PM
Simone (Guest): the enemy
Jan 5, 4:41 PM
Dawn (Guest): I agree
Jan 5, 4:41 PM
Simone (Guest): lack of prayer
an 5, 4:41 PMSimone (Guest): poor understanding or lack of understanding of Catholic faith
an 5, 4:42 PM
Simone (Guest): being afraid of power of Church
Jan 5, 4:42 PM
Simone (Guest): like Herod was in a way
Jan 5, 4:42 PM
SrSusan (Guest): some kind of prejudice?
n 5, 4:42 PM
Anna-Marie Kean (Guest): Anti Catholic… many reasons… 1. spiritual warfare 2. Disobedience to God’s word
Jan 5, 4:43 PM
Simone (Guest): loss of understanding of GOD. the underlying truth, that GOD is GOD and we are not
Jan 5, 4:43 PM
Dawn (Guest): Conversion so needed, a grace from God.
Jan 5, 4:43 PM
Anna-Marie Kean (Guest): Counter cultural to the material atheism
Jan 5, 4:43 PM
Anna-Marie Kean (Guest): So pervasive in our society
Jan 5, 4:43 PM
Simone (Guest): I agree
Jan 5, 4:44 PM
SrSusan (Guest): and it can lead to murder and martyrdom
an 5, 4:44 PMSrSusan (Guest): q There are places today where people’s lives are at risk for being Christian, but in other parts of the world, persecution comes in the form of a “white martyrdom.” Discuss how the faith is the target of persecution in this manner.
an 5, 4:45 PM
Dawn (Guest): White is not violent it is verbal persecution
Jan 5, 4:46 PM
Simone (Guest): Here in Canada.. we had a new law a couple of years ago –
Jan 5, 4:46 PM
Dawn (Guest): Í think it is still violence in a way
an 5, 4:46 PMDawn (Guest): What is the law
an 5, 4:47 PM
Simone (Guest): christian organizations – who had in their bylaws,, that they do not support homosexuality as a godly life style.. were cut off from any government support.
Jan 5, 4:47 PM
Ruth (Guest): Hi everyone. telephone call shortened time left for the movie. Just finished watching it. 200 views meow than when you reported,Siste!
Jan 5, 4:47 PM
Anna-Marie Kean (Guest): Faith is seen as not accepting the behavior of all… people see this as persecution yet they do not accept difference in beliefs..
Jan 5, 4:48 PM
SrSusan (Guest): pretty powerful for a short film
Jan 5, 4:49 PM
Simone (Guest): as for the movie.. I got a prayer booklet from an Austrian Visitande Sister – they are novena prayers with these seven sisters
Jan 5, 4:49 PM
Simone (Guest): I found the sisters so beautiful in the movie
Jan 5, 4:50 PM
SrSusan (Guest): have you used te novena
Jan 5, 4:50 PM
Simone (Guest): to be honest.. I never finished it.. I feel horrible just writing that down now
Jan 5, 4:50 PM
SrSusan (Guest): that’s ok not the right time for it
Jan 5, 4:51 PM
Simone (Guest): <3
Jan 5, 4:51 PM
Simone (Guest): that should be a heart
an 5, 4:51 PM
Ruth (Guest): It seems we are now in the age of martyrs.
Jan 5, 4:51 PM
SrSusan (Guest): interesting about white martyrdom as it reminds me of St jane’s martyrdom of love somehow
Jan 5, 4:51 PM
Simone (Guest): how so Ruth?
Jan 5, 4:51 PM
Dawn (Guest): Film so well done
Jan 5, 4:52 PM
Simone (Guest): yes.. Sister.. I was hoping we would talk about the martyrdom of love
Jan 5, 4:52 PMSimone (Guest): I just read about it again yesterday
an 5, 4:52 PMSimone (Guest): she spoke about it. on the feast of St. Basil…
n 5, 4:52 PM
Ruth (Guest): There are more martyrs now than in the early church.
Jan 5, 4:52 PM
Simone (Guest): Is it to stand in the tension.. of so desperately wanting to be united with GOD in eternity .. but to find daily the YES for life here on earth still?
Jan 5, 4:53 PM
SrSusan (Guest): St Basil and St Gregory were very close but they had some kind of falling out as friends for a while
Jan 5, 4:53 PM
SrSusan (Guest): could be that
Jan 5, 4:53 PM
SrSusan (Guest): also could be the dependency on others that needs to break so one can belong fully to God
Jan 5, 4:54 PMSimone (Guest): hmm.. interesting
Jan 5, 4:54 PMAnna-Marie Kean (Guest): That makes sense
Jan 5, 4:54 PMAnna-Marie Kean (Guest): Detachment
n 5, 4:55 PM
SrSusan (Guest): but as for white martyrdom I think Ruth has a point- lots of maryrs today
Jan 5, 4:55 PM
SrSusan (Guest): believers are witnesses and are often ridiculed
Jan 5, 4:55 PM
Dawn (Guest): I am being separated from those in my family .
Jan 5, 4:56 PM
SrSusan (Guest): for faith?
Jan 5, 4:56 PM
Simone (Guest): when we were discerning if God is really calling us into the Catholic Church.. I remember a time where I had to give my YES to persecution. Cause I knew it is so easy to hide in the protestant church.. but as Catholics we will be visible targets
an 5, 4:57 PMDawn (Guest): But I trust God and believe this is for his plan. I’m certain my faith is biggest part of it
Jan 5, 4:57 PMSimone (Guest): also.. I think it is smart to memorize scripture.. if we carry it in our hearts.. noone can ever take that away from us
an 5, 4:58 PMDawn (Guest): I agree Simone and always best way to respond
an 5, 4:58 PMRuth (Guest): More than ridiculed, believers often are effected by injustices directed against them, especially if they openly express their beliefs.
an 5, 5:00 PM
Guest (Guest): Detachment and trust in the Lord and with the grace of God help to deal with persecution
Jan 5, 5:00 PM
Ruth (Guest): But my statement refers to red martyrdom — more than during the first 200 year of the Church.
an 5, 5:00 PM
Simone (Guest): I remember once.. sitting in a college course.. on diversity.. the teacher found herself so incredibly tolerant.. EVERY example she brought in this course.. every one.. was against the Catholic Church – she swore with the name of our Lord in class.. plus – she made us all do indigenous practices.. without asking.. I talked to her in the end of the course and said..
Jan 5, 5:00 PM
Ruth (Guest): Not sure where I read the statistic.
Jan 5, 5:01 PM
Simone (Guest): ” If I would wear a muslim veil – you would not dare talking in class about Allah like you did about my God”.. she was shocked.. and said.. noone has ever talked to her like this. well.. I thought.. it was about time
Jan 5, 5:02 PM
Simone (Guest): by the way.. I was not rude or loud.. I was just very determined
an 5, 5:02 PM
Ruth (Guest): Good for you Simone!
Jan 5, 5:02 PM
SrSusan (Guest): You are strong and courageous
Jan 5, 5:03 PMDawn (Guest): I need to become more assertive not rude but so much love I have for their souls
an 5, 5:03 PMDawn (Guest): I will pray to be more like that Simone
an 5, 5:04 PM
Simone (Guest): I try not to defend myself.. but my God
Jan 5, 5:04 PM
SrSusan (Guest): q Why is it helpful to learn the stories of martyrs?
Jan 5, 5:05 PM
Simone (Guest): it helps us to embrace suffering… generally
Jan 5, 5:05 PM
Dawn (Guest): They are our teachers
Jan 5, 5:05 PM
Simone (Guest): it reminds us very clearly.. that we are here to serve God.. even to death.. and not that God has to serve us.. he already did that anyways with His death
Jan 5, 5:05 PM
Anna-Marie Kean (Guest): I am inspired by their love of God, courage, perseverance and detachment… give me hope that I too can be witness
an 5, 5:06 PM
Simone (Guest): as Salesians I think we are encouraged.. to see a form of martyrdom.. by gentleness.. or meekness..
Jan 5, 5:06 PM
Dawn (Guest): The chastisement we experience may get stronger.
an 5, 5:07 PM
Simone (Guest): the holding back of power – and coming in vulnerable in a situation. is for me a form of martyrdom
Jan 5, 5:07 PM
Simone (Guest): in daily life
Jan 5, 5:07 PM
SrSusan (Guest): like mortification Simone?
Jan 5, 5:07 PM
Simone (Guest): I guess.
Jan 5, 5:07 PMSimone (Guest): yes.. a dying to oneself
Jan 5, 5:07 PMSimone (Guest): which is a very powerful witness too
an 5, 5:09 PMSrSusan (Guest): Is martyrdom something we should aspire to
an 5, 5:09 PM
Simone (Guest): I think it is a form of grace too
Jan 5, 5:09 PM
Ruth (Guest): Perseverance is.
Jan 5, 5:10 PM
Simone (Guest): I really want to encourage all of you to watch the movie ” A Hidden Life” – a biography of Blessed Franz Jaegerstaetter .. from Austria.. SUCH A GOOD MOVIE! sorry for shouting in capitals “)
Jan 5, 5:10 PM
Simone (Guest):
Jan 5, 5:10 PM
SrSusan (Guest): on you tube?
Jan 5, 5:10 PM
Dawn (Guest): Thank you
an 5, 5:12 PMSrSusan (Guest): I hope that if I am ever in that situation i accept the grace
an 5, 5:13 PM
Simone (Guest): What do you think happened to the Sister who ran away in the movie?
Jan 5, 5:13 PM
Dawn (Guest): Yes
Jan 5, 5:14 PM
SrSusan (Guest): She gave herself up and was martyred
Jan 5, 5:14 PM
Simone (Guest): I know.. she did in the end..
Jan 5, 5:14 PM
Simone (Guest): but why did she run away?
Jan 5, 5:14 PM
SrSusan (Guest): 5 days later
Jan 5, 5:14 PM
Simone (Guest): Is that what you would call.. not accepting the grace?
Jan 5, 5:14 PM
Dawn (Guest): Their crucifix hit with bullet was very powerful
Jan 5, 5:14 PM
SrSusan (Guest): panicked I think, Divine Providence actually
Jan 5, 5:14 PM
Simone (Guest): Peter and I talked.. and we said.. that sometimes the body just reacts
Jan 5, 5:15 PMSimone (Guest): I agree.. God has used her last days for others
Jan 5, 5:16 PM
Dawn (Guest): Do you think the mother that visited sisters, later, this was her daughter?
Jan 5, 5:16 PM
Simone (Guest): you mean the mother of Sr. Cecilia?
Jan 5, 5:17 PM
Simone (Guest): but – she only said.. that she saw the material in this box
Jan 5, 5:17 PM
Dawn (Guest): She recognized the sisters cross
Jan 5, 5:18 PM
Simone (Guest): so.. what made you think that this was her mother?
Jan 5, 5:18 PM
Dawn (Guest): I can’t. I’ll say goodnight now. God bless
Jan 5, 5:19 PM
Simone (Guest): Did I say something wrong Dawn? I am sorry..
Jan 5, 5:19 PM
Simone (Guest): I am confused
an 5, 5:20 PMSrSusan (Guest): Since it was not in English it was not always easy to follow the translation esp if you never read the book about them
an 5, 5:20 PM
Simone (Guest): oh.. there is a book? I did not know that.
Jan 5, 5:20 PM
SrSusan (Guest): Yes
an 5, 5:21 PM
SrSusan (Guest): Not on line i t is called and they gave their lives I think Toledo Vis translated it from Spanish
Jan 5, 5:21 PM
SrSusan (Guest): originally by Sr Martina Lopez
Jan 5, 5:22 PM
Simone (Guest): I will try to research
n 5, 5:23 PM
Simone (Guest): well, thank you for the invitation to watch this short movie. Peter and I found it very interesting
Jan 5, 5:23 PM
SrSusan (Guest): pray they get canonized
Jan 5, 5:23 PM
Simone (Guest): May your life and the lives of all the other Visitatindes be sheltered though from persecution
Jan 5, 5:23 PM
SrSusan (Guest): Thank you!Jan 5, 5:24 PM
Simone (Guest): Sister.. I have never been told of any Church martyrs.
Jan 5, 5:25 PM
Simone (Guest): I started reading about some when I reverted to Catholicism
an 5, 5:25 PM
Simone (Guest): The movie ” the mission”.. was probably my first exposure to modern day martyrdom
Jan 5, 5:25 PM
SrSusan (Guest): I never saw that one
Jan 5, 5:25 PM
Simone (Guest): I am very sensitive- I have to be careful too.. how much I expose myself to these hard themes
Jan 5, 5:26 PM
Simone (Guest): oh.. you would love that movie.. it is a classic..
an 5, 5:26 PM
SrSusan (Guest): and readig vs images on film have different effects
Jan 5, 5:26 PM
Simone (Guest): about a Jesuit order.. amongst wild tribes.. on a mission.. oh there are amazing scenes in this movie
Jan 5, 5:26 PMSimone (Guest): yes.. movie is even harder than reading I find
