For many years this website has researched into the history of the Visitation Monasteries in Europe who were privileged to be part of the rescue of trafficked women in the 1800’s.

In 2014 we featured Marie Kaisale, who was rescued and placed in the Visitation Monastery of Bourg en Bresse, France.

We have now discovered another approach to the life of  Marie Kaisale in the scholarly paper by Helen McKelvey, entitled Religious imagery in nineteenth-century French slavery narratives, found here: Helen_McKelvey_Religious_Imagery_in_Nineteenth_Century_French_Slavery_Narratives.pdf

May you garner much insight from this work!
