The inauguration of the Monastery of the Sisters of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Zapatoca was celebrated on May 8, 2025, in the presence of church authorities and citizens. The event took place in the new building erected on the block donated by businessman Gerardo Díaz Ardila, who provided the land for the project.
The construction received financial support from the local parishioners and donations through the Solidarity Bond of two million pesos each, deductible from the profits obtained by the companies as donations certified by the National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN).
The ceremony was attended by the Bishop of Socorro and San Gil, Monsignor Luis Augusto Campo Flórez; the Bishop Emeritus, Monsignor Germán Meza Ruiz; and the parish priest of Zapatoca, Priest José Antonio Díaz Gómez, along with other priests of the diocese.
The Bishop highlighted citizen participation and the contributions from the Solidarity Bond. The parishioners donated cash and demonstrated their commitment to the Levitical city. The Community of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary has been present in Zapatoca for fourteen years. Its members, called Cloistered Nuns, foster a contemplative life and have formed numerous nuns who embraced the apostolic life in this Santander jurisdiction.
