How do obedience and liberty go together? Aren’t they mutually exclusive or contradictory? What does it mean to love obedience more than we fear disobedience? What does it mean for our hearts to be disengaged from all things? How do we “love and desire consolations” and yet at the same time not set our hearts upon them? How can we maintain a “joy of heart,” and if we lose it for a moment, how do we keep the momentum of joy? What are the most difficult attachments we have in our lives? And how do we become free from them, and yet not run away from our responsibilities?

SrSusan (Guest): we are getting close to religious freedom week so the opening questions are remotely related I think:
Jun 8, 4:36 PM
SrSusan (Guest): How do obedience and liberty go together? Aren’t they mutually exclusive or contradictory
un 8, 4:37 PMCarol (Guest): It’s another paradox. When we are free we are at liberty to follow Jesus without constraint
un 8, 4:38 PM
SrSusan (Guest): Good answer
Jun 8, 4:39 PM
Brian Bunny (Guest): When I think of obediance I am thinking of discerning what God wants me to do . Liberty is a choice to do our own thing or do God Will !!!!!
Jun 8, 4:39 PM
SrSusan (Guest): Obedience in itself can be freeing at least pyschologically
Jun 8, 4:39 PMRuth (Guest): definitely not mutually exclusive, however, of the three evangelical council wheni was considering a religious life, I thought I would have the most difficulty with obedience.
Jun 8, 4:40 PM
Carol (Guest): Me too!
Jun 8, 4:40 PM
SrSusan (Guest): But if we listen to the Holy Spirit within and follow the inspirations we can feel free becuse we know the Spirit only guides us in the best way
un 8, 4:41 PMCarol (Guest): I agree
Jun 8, 4:42 PMSrSusan (Guest): ?What does it mean to love obedience more than we fear disobedience?
un 8, 4:43 PM
Ruth (Guest): True,Sister, but in some communities the examples they gave of HOLY OBEDIENCE seemed to me to have nothing to do with discerning God’s will but rather submitting to a pecking order. Nothing to do with Love, but more to do with who has the power.
Jun 8, 4:43 PM
Carol (Guest): We obey willingly out of love instead of acting in fear of punishment
un 8, 4:43 PM
Carol (Guest): I saw some if that too Ruth
Jun 8, 4:44 PM
Ruth (Guest): Counsels
Jun 8, 4:44 PMSrSusan (Guest): Love is greater than fear but fear can prevent love
Jun 8, 4:46 PMRuth (Guest): Fear can cripple in every way. Maybe that is why in the Bible “DO NOT FEAR” is repeated so often.
Jun 8, 4:46 PMCarol (Guest): 365, kne for every day of the year
Jun 8, 4:47 PMSrSusan (Guest): Loving obedience is the positiveapproach to following the Lord!
un 8, 4:48 PM
Carol (Guest): It can be hard because we like to have control
Jun 8, 4:48 PM
Brian Bunny (Guest): When I was discerning retirement with Janet having early symptoms of Alzheimer’s and my Son Mitch beginning to show signs of Recovery it was very difficult decision and I was looking for God’s help !!!! I was working at several different locations with a lot of different people . One day a coworker counciled me briefly saying you will never regret the extra time with Janet but you will regret if you continue working and miss that time . God made it clear that it was time to enjoy our time together and help
Jun 8, 4:48 PM
Ruth (Guest): St. JP2 wrote about those 365 exhortations, too.
Jun 8, 4:49 PM
SrSusan (Guest): The best decision Brian
Jun 8, 4:49 PM
Carol (Guest): That is beautiful Brian. I stole extra time with my Dad too
un 8, 4:50 PMRuth (Guest): I’m glad, Brian, that you made the decision and are evidently at peace with it.
un 8, 4:50 PMRuth (Guest): LOVE is so much “bigger” than a full pay check.
un 8, 4:51 PM
SrSusan (Guest): What does it mean for our hearts to be disengaged from all things?

Jun 8, 4:52 PM
Ruth (Guest): Good Question.
Jun 8, 4:53 PM
Ruth (Guest): THINGS NOT PEOPLE OR GOD, RIGHT?
Jun 8, 4:53 PM
SrSusan (Guest): I think in terms of overattachment
Jun 8, 4:53 PM
Carol (Guest): If we are not inordinately attached to things we can respond quickly when God calls
Jun 8, 4:53 PM
Brian Bunny (Guest): Thanks !!!!!! God Always confirms with us what He wants us to do !!!!! It has always helped me to look for and ask for His confirmation !!!!!! We all face such difficult decisions throughout life !!!!!! Thank God for the Holy Spirit Guiding Us !!!!!! All because of Jesus’s Obedience to the Father !!!!!!!!
Jun 8, 4:55 PMRuth (Guest): Yes, Jesus’s Obedience is the model! If it can be so, take this cup from me, but not my will but YOURS be done!
un 8, 4:56 PMSrSusan (Guest): How do we “love and desire consolations” and yet at the same time not set our hearts upon them?
Jun 8, 4:56 PMBrian Bunny (Guest): I think when we can put everthing aside even our strongest attachments to actually be available to do God’s Will !!!!!! That’s what Jesus teaches Us to do !!!!!! He led us by example Going to the Cross to Free Us All !!!!!
un 8, 4:57 PMCarol (Guest): There is so much inside human nature that fights this
un 8, 4:57 PMBrian Bunny (Guest): Soo True Carol !!!!!
Jun 8, 4:58 PM
Brian Bunny (Guest): That’s Why we can’t do it without the Holy Spirit !!!!!!!
Jun 8, 4:59 PM
Carol (Guest): And the world spends so much time selling us on following our heart, not God’s
Jun 8, 4:59 PM
SrSusan (Guest): I think all these ideas are subject to the circumstances In the charismatic world thirsting strongly for a gift of the Spirit is encouraged
un 8, 5:00 PMSrSusan (Guest): Tho I guess if the gift is not given one must acceptmit calmly
un 8, 5:01 PM
Carol (Guest): I heard many sermons this year on the difference between the charismatic gifts and what happened on Pentecost
Jun 8, 5:01 PM
SrSusan (Guest): Can you share a little?
un 8, 5:03 PMBrian Bunny (Guest): We know that we are walking with the Holy Spirit when we demonstrate the Fruits of the Spirit in our Daily Life . When we do opposite of the Fruits of the Spirit we know we our grieving the Holy Spirit and we need to run to Jesus !!!!!
Jun 8, 5:03 PM
Carol (Guest): The gift of fire given on Pentecost is purifying and to ignite the fire of evangelization. The apostles were afraid until the Spirit took over. The charismatic gifts are for prayer and healing
Jun 8, 5:03 PM

Jun 8, 5:05 PM
Ruth (Guest): Once, at a “healing service” with a well known lay “healer” where a lot of people were marveling at how much better they felt in— each had a private session with the speaker — I was accused by this lay healer of interfering with any healing by not really “wanting” to be healed. It was disturbing. But in private prayer that scene in the Olive Garden came to me, and I knew that the two desiring relief, consolation, healing AND being WILLING to accept whatever God, in his Loving will, asks of me, even death.
Jun 8, 5:05 PM

Lisa C
un 8, 5:07 PMSrSusan (Guest): How can we maintain a “joy of heart,” and if we lose it for a moment, how do we keep the momentum of joy?
Jun 8, 5:08 PM
Brian Bunny (Guest): A Fruit of the Holy Spirit many do not discuss is Long Suffering Ruth !!!!!! What an Inspiration to the Community when we watch others who suffer Greatly keep their Faith as they walk through their Suffering with God !!!!!!
Jun 8, 5:08 PM
Carol (Guest): He sounds almost like those preachers who say demand that your illness be cure, claim it in the Name of Christ. They never say what happens if the physical healing is not in God’s plan
Jun 8, 5:08 PM
Ruth (Guest): Dictation not working at all just now. I think I will check settings.

SrSusan (Guest): It’s mixed
un 8, 5:22 PMRuth2 (Guest): I think I am attached to my freedom – including to live here where it is quite most of the time and the air is almost always clean (except lately with other forest fires in Canada).
Jun 8, 5:22 PMCarol (Guest): I thinks it’s beautiful there
un 8, 5:23 PMBrian Bunny (Guest): Getting too busy !!!!! Daily Mass , Bible Readings , Quotes from the Saints , and testimony from people close to God how they handled situations or advice from others is helpful !!!!!
un 8, 5:25 PMSrSusan (Guest): I guess each of us have or have had responsibilities and WE HAVE NOT run from them but maybe we think about that sometimes
