Peace and Happiness

How inspired is the human heart when it turns resolutely to God! It knows, by faith, that God alone is its true rest. Trials of every kind: illness, poverty, humiliation, even death, may arise, but nothing troubles the one who has placed all their love and trust in God. The trusting heart, firmly assured that God governs all, in joys as in sorrows, abandons itself to divine love, which brings it calm and serenity. Jesus endured everything, everything that human nature can experience. Jesus laughed, wept, experienced contempt and slander, poverty, and fatigue, then the pangs of death in horrible suffering. But until the end, He fully surrendered to the Will of His Father. During our hours of presence, if we have frequent inner inspirations to draw closer to the Heart of Jesus, our soul will gradually fill with peace. We will find peace of heart and peace of mind. To seek God, to obey Him with delicacy, to consent to a few small sacrifices, to have a gentle look on others, to accept the trials of the moment, is already to love Him. And whoever loves Him follows in peace the path that opens up to Him, whatever it may be, straight or winding, smooth or stony, lined with flowers or cluttered with thorns. We all desire peace and happiness. Happiness is found in peace, and peace in faith in God! (From the advice of our foundress – 1891)

The True Treasure

“Where your treasure is, there will your heart be.” ” says the Gospel (Mt 6:21). But it is not always in riches that the heart finds its treasure. Just look at men. To enrich themselves, they impose upon themselves hard work, long journeys, difficult and sometimes perilous undertakings, numerous all-consuming activities. They sit in assemblies and meetings. They multiply their social relationships… Some, to live even more comfortably, will not hesitate to deal in money or cheat. When they achieve brilliant successes, they boast, love to shine in society, and despise those who have not fulfilled their ambitions. Yet these successes, vigorously encouraged and pursued, do not enrich the soul. While many envy those who seem to possess this kind of treasure, for the sensible person, it is a treasure that impoverishes. Indeed, very often, most successes lead to the pleasures of this world. The soul becomes greedy to possess, to enjoy material goods, to profit from fashionable entertainment, to be and to appear… He who has everything and loses himself in these fleeting pleasures, loses the elevation of his thoughts, the delicacy of his feelings, the purity of his heart, and above all the salvation of his soul. The only treasure we must possess is Jesus, who was given to us by God. He alone can fulfill us. The more we seek Him, the more He will enrich us with His graces. The more we speak to Him, the more He will speak to us. The more we live in Him, the more He will grow within us. The more we ask Him, the more He will grant us. The more we ask of Him, the more He will give. All we receive from Him are eternal treasures that will never fail us. Better than that, they are the promise of discovering the fullness of an inexhaustible treasure: a blessed and glorious Eternity. (From the advice of our foundress – 1891)
